Twinning

Regular exchanges between the town of Plougastel and twin towns take place in order to develop cultural, sporting, economic, educational and tourist relations.

Plougastel and its twin cities are resolutely open to a democratic, fraternal and peaceful Europe, in which their inhabitants have the chance to live and flourish in harmony, with mutual respect for their respective identities and cultures.

Twinning with Westport (Ireland)

The town of Westport is located in County Mayo in the west of Ireland, 288 km from Cork and 261 km from Dublin and has a population of around 8,000.

The official signing of the twinning took place in August 1977 in Plougastel and in August 1978 in Westport.

Twinning with Saltash (English Cornwall)

The town of Saltash is a town in southeastern Cornwall, opposite Plymouth across the River Tamar, and has a population of around 15,000.
The official signing of the twinning took place in May 1987 in Plougastel and May 1988 in Saltash.

Twinning with the town of Ciminna (Sicily)

The city of Ciminna is in Italy, located 35 km southeast of Palermo, and has about 4,500 inhabitants. Ciminna is famous in Italy, because in 1962 the masterpiece of Luchino Visconti, palmes d’or at the Cannes festival in 1963 « The Cheetah”, was filmed.

The official signing of the twinning took place in September 2011.
